In contrast, Portimão is well-known for its recent history as a seaside resort. What most people don’t know is that tourism here dates back to the late 19th century, when the first aristocrats arrived and promoted the construction of the first hotels and the casino along the popular Praia da Rocha. Besides these lively tourist attractions, the city has a rich history in the canning industry, having at its peak more than a dozen working factories, an example of which has been reproduced in the city’s museum. We’ll also enjoy the view of the Arade River and the town of Ferragudo across from the Manuel Teixeira Gomes square. A visit to the Portimão Museum is included.
